Profiles

A profile binds one user to a default organization and project. Most people only need the default profile that enumctl auth login and enumctl init set up. Add more when you work as different users, for example a personal user and a work user.

You can stay logged in as several users at once. Each profile points at one of them.

Terminal window
enumctl profiles create work

Asks which user the profile belongs to:

Select a user for profile work:
> you@example.com
you@company.com
Log in with a new user

Choosing Log in with a new user starts the login flow for the new profile. Either way, enumctl then asks for the profile’s default organization and project, the same way enumctl init does. The profile is only created once all three are chosen, so aborting leaves nothing behind.

To skip the prompts, pass a user you are already logged in as. The organization and project stay unset until you choose them:

Terminal window
enumctl profiles create work --user you@company.com

Without a user, for example in scripts, the profile is created logged out. Log in on it with enumctl --profile work auth login.

After the prompts, the new profile is selected. Profiles created with --user or without a terminal are not selected.

FlagDescription
--userLogged-in user to bind to the profile
Terminal window
enumctl profiles select work

Switches to work for later commands. Without a name, pick one from a list.

Terminal window
enumctl kubernetes list --profile work

Or for the current shell:

Terminal window
export ENUMCTL_PROFILE=work

--profile wins over ENUMCTL_PROFILE, which wins over the selected profile. To switch with the working directory, set ENUMCTL_PROFILE in a .envrc (direnv) at the project root.

Terminal window
enumctl profiles list

Shows each profile with its user, organization, and project, and which one is selected. Alias: ls.

Terminal window
enumctl profiles get
enumctl profiles get work

Shows the profile in use when you omit the name.

Terminal window
enumctl profiles delete work

You cannot delete the selected profile. Select another one first. Deleting a profile does not log out its user. Use --force to skip the confirmation prompt. Alias: rm.

enumctl config and enumctl auth act on the profile in use:

Terminal window
enumctl --profile work config set user you@company.com
enumctl --profile work auth login

config set user accepts only users you are logged in as. Changing the user either way clears the profile’s organization and project.
